In-situ microstructural control of A6082 alloy to modify second phase particles by melt conditioned direct chill (MC-DC) casting process – A novel approach

چکیده
Controlling the formation of noncompact second phase particles during direct chill (DC) casting aluminium alloys with grain refiner addition remains challenging, as it results in energy intensive homogenisation and deformation problems. In this work, we employed a novel strategy DC A6082 alloy to produce billets fine-scale dispersion particles. The involves maintaining 2–7 °C above liquidus thermal condition sump by in-situ melt conditioning (MC) using rotor-stator high-shear device operated at critical rotation speed. As result, control solidification behaviour is achieved precisely tailor as-cast microstructure. billet refinement attained MC-DC without deliberate chemical refiners. microstructure cast speed showed dendritic structure refined secondary dendrite arm spacing (SDAS). front proceeded shallow corresponding shorter time, higher cooling rate, temperature gradient, smooth rate profile. ideal dendrites low SDAS divided remaining eutectic liquid into isolated pockets, resulting fine-scale, compact morphology, uniform distribution process ability increase house production increasing bleeding billet. present approach could be beneficial for eliminating or reducing practice may also introduce significant flexibility recycled Al industry.

Numerical Modeling of Macrosegregation during the Direct-Chill Casting of an Al alloy Billet
ABSTRACT Macrosegregation has been received high attention in the solidification modeling studies. In the present work, a numerical model was developed to predict the macrosegregation during the DC Casting of an Al-4.5wt%Cu billet. The mathematical model developed in this study consists of mass, momentum, energy and species conservation equations for a two-phase mixture of liquid and solid in a...

Bulk Cu-Ti alloy reinforced by TiB2 nano particles was prepared using in-situ reaction between Cu3.4wt.% Ti and Cu-0.7wt.% B along with rapid solidification and subsequent heat treatment for 1-10 hrs at 900oC. High-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) characterization showed that primary TiB2 nano particles and TiB whiskers were formed by in-situ reaction between Ti and B in the ...
